Oceans are very important ecosystems for the world. My primary concern with oceans is the plastic and garbage that is collecting in them. Garbage, specifically plastic, is polluting the oceans and specifically gathering in certain regions, such as the North Pacific Gyre. There is a large garbage patch forming in between Japan and North America. "An ocean gyre is a system of circular ocean currents formed by the Earth's wind patterns and the forces created by the rotation of the planet" (National Geographic, 2012). These currents and wind patterns are pushing all the garbage in the water to one area. The garbage that is accumulating in this gyre is damaging aquatic life and their ecosystems.
